Lenten Project 2016 Update - St. Bridget Parish Hall Basement

Another update on some work of the St. Bridget Youth Group, Parish Staff, and The Joes a couple of weekends ago as part of Lenten 2016 Projects. Great job by everyone involved!

Organize & Remove Clutter

With the help of the St. Bridget Youth Group, leaders, and Parish staff, items in storage were identified and sorted.

Along with The Joes, the Youth Group Junior High students sorted and reallocated of many items that were no longer needed at the Parish.

Some went to Goodwill and Restore of Habitat for Humanity. The excess filled a 20 cubic yard dumpster and helped to clean out the basement space.

3 rooms full of items were reduced to less than 1 room of items organized for all Parish Groups.

Paint the Mechanical Rooms

The basement space is punctuated by 3 small rooms, each housing a furnace and mechanicals. The youth group prepped and painted each room with dramatic colors, befitting the character of the space.

They intend to add casual furniture, rugs, and other activities to the space.

Each room painted was 12’ high and 22’ in length, requiring careful trim work and floor taping.

Create a Giant Blackboard
Along the North wall of the basement, the Joes built a 2 x 6 stud wall 8’ x 24’ in size.
Drywall board was installed and prepped for coating material consisting of primer and 2 coats of ‘blackboard’ surface.

The board area will be trimmed with rough sawn cedar and ready for ‘chalk’ by March 1st.

Lenten Project Update

A message from Dale Dickinson on Lenten Project Progress so far:

______________________________

Fellow Joes,

We made very good progress on all the projects last week.

The Cor Mariae project is now completed

The kneelers have been inspected, adjusted, and now have new rubber feet on the bottom.  I received a call from Sheila Snider to sat that she was at Mass at Cor Mariae early this week and Father couldn’t stop talking about the Joes and the work that they did.  Great job on the project.

St. Bridget Parish – lower level of Mitchell Hall

This project also made a lot of progress.  A lot was done in hanging the new wall, painting of the outside of the utility rooms, and coordinating the storage space needs.  We are determining what the specific needs are for this Saturday.  Stay tuned for more projects.

Other

With the good progress of these projects, we are trying to coordinate other projects to be involved with during Lent.  Please be patient.  More to come on this as well.

Continue to make progress on your Lenten journey,

Dale

Cor Mariae 2016 Lenten Project Photos

The Cor Mariae Lenten kneeler project went very well and is completed. We feel encouraged that we were able to help replace the rubber feet on the kneelers throughout the chapel and hope the residents and guests will enjoy the new feet on the kneelers for many years to come!

This was a project that Dan Snider was involved in identifying and we took time to reflect on our friendships with Dan and spent time in prayer upon completion of the job.

Lenten Projects 2016

Want to get involved?

As Lent quickly approaches, we’d like to thank Joes and friends for their participation in SJ&S Lenten projects last year.  Below is information regarding the two projects for us this coming Lent.

·         St. Bridget’s Parish – 3 tasks

Their Junior High Youth Group meets in their parish center, lower level.  One new feature they want is a large blackboard on the north wall.  Tom has prepared detailed plans for the wall which will take several Joe’s to construct and paint.  The blackboard wall is 8’ high by 24’ long.  Also , there are some utility closet walls that also need to be painted.   The walls are 12’ high by 22’ long and there are two of them.  Finally, the lower level has lots of messy build-up and we will assist in helping to organize the existing space.  St. Bridget’s will have a strong decision maker to help us clear out the build-up.  With all of these tasks, we hope to have some of the youth group kids helping out my making the many trips up the stairs to the dumpster.

We are planning on three Saturdays, February 13, 20, and 27.  We’ll start at 7:30 and be done for the day by 4:00pm.

·         Provina Cor Mariae – kneelers in the chapel

The kneelers have rubber pads on them that need to be removed and replaced.  Jim Zimmer is leading this project and recently demonstrated the removal and replacement procedure at our January meeting.  There are 45 kneelers with four pads per kneeler.  It will take about ½ hour to repair each kneeler.  Gordy Grubb has also been involved.

We’d like to work on Friday afternoons from 1-4pm and also on Saturday mornings from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm - starting on February 12/13th and finishing the work on February 19/20th

Please seriously consider helping with one of these projects.  These projects are a big part of who we as members of St. Joseph and Sons are all about.  We need your help.

Please let us know which project you’d like to participate in this Lent. (as a penance for our many sins).

Email us at stjosephandsons@gmail.com if you would like more information.

February "Thought of the Month"

Be Christian at all times! The truth of Christ, that the Holy Spirit teaches us and gives us, always and forever involves our daily lives. Let us invoke the Spirit more often, to guide us on the path of Christ’s disciples.
